guide
Stochastic asks: where did we CLOSE inside the recent high-low range? 80+ = near the top, 20 and below = near the bottom.
Level by level
Beginner
Like RSI it flags stretched moves, but it's faster and noisier. The K/D crossover in the extreme zones is the textbook trigger.
Intermediate
Use the slow stochastic (3-smoothing) to cut noise, and only take signals aligned with the higher-timeframe trend.
Advanced
Its real strength is range markets and divergence spotting; in strong trends it pins at extremes and stays there — a filter, not a fade signal.
Common mistakes
- Fading every 80/20 reading in a trending market
- Using fast stochastic on a 1-minute chart and drowning in noise
