guide
Fib retracement marks 23.6/38.2/50/61.8/78.6 percent pullback levels of a prior swing — popular map points for where dips find buyers.
Level by level
Beginner
Draw from swing low to swing high (uptrend); watch how price behaves AT the levels — the reaction is the signal, the line is just the venue.
Intermediate
Shallow retraces (38.2) signal strong trends; deep ones (61.8-78.6) weaker ones. Confluence with prior S/R or a moving average upgrades a level.
Advanced
Fibs work partly because enough traders watch them (self-fulfilling liquidity). Harmonic patterns (Gartley/Butterfly — see the Chart Playground) formalise fib clusters into reversal zones.
Common mistakes
- Trading a fib level with no price reaction or confluence
- Drawing fibs on every tiny swing until the chart is wallpaper
