Divergence: price and momentum disagree — price makes a new extreme, the oscillator doesn't. The engine is quitting before the car stops.
Level by level
Beginner
Bearish: higher high in price, lower high in RSI/MACD. Bullish: the mirror at lows. It WARNS — it doesn't time.
Intermediate
Regular divergence signals potential reversal; hidden divergence (price higher low, oscillator lower low in an uptrend) signals continuation — the pros' favourite.
Advanced
Divergences resolve late and can stack 2-3 times in strong trends. Demand a structure break (trendline/level) as the actual trigger; the divergence only sets the alert.
Common mistakes
- Shorting a rocket on the first divergence
- Not waiting for any price confirmation at all
